Company History

1927 Henry F. Owens, Jr., Founder of Owens Movers, began moving Irish and Italian immigrants to their homes in Boston, MA with a two-wheeled cart.

1930 Henry F. Owens, Jr. invested $50 in a horse and buggy and began to haul coal and ice between Boston and Cambridge, MA.

1950's Henry F. Owens, Jr. moved pianos for Arthur Fielder at Symphony Hall, Tanglewood.

1976 Raytheon's first microwave oven was moved.

1985 Edward O. Owens assumed responsibility for the company as president and CEO.

1995 The National Advancement Association for Colored People (NAACP) recognized Owens Movers with the "Business of the Year" award.

1999 New England Minority Supplier Development Council presented Owens Movers with the "Supplier of Year Award" for exemplifying outstanding service and performance.

2002 Black & White Boston Coming Together honored Owens Movers with the "Henry Hampton Award" for its continued contributions to the minority community. And Owens Movers received the "Shining Star Award" for longstanding commitment to customers and employees by the New England Minority Supplier Development Council.

2003 New England Minority Supplier Development Council again awarded Owens Movers the "Supplier of the Year Award."

2004 Owens Movers won the largest commercial moving contract in Massachusetts with the Fleet Center (now the TD Bank North Garden) and the Democratic National Convention.

2004 Harvard University selected Owens Movers as their "Preferred Mover."
